Euthanasia

With compassion, pet euthanasia provides a gentle farewell, relieving pain and discomfort.

Unfortunately, there may come a time where it is in your beloved cat’s best interest to consider euthanasia. This is an important and very difficult decision to make with many factors to consider. Please contact the clinic if you require assistance with this decision.

When should I consider euthanasia?

You should consider euthanasia if your pet has a terminal or progressive illness and is considered to be suffering. We often reflect on their quality of life, to help us come to this difficult decision. We measure the quality of life based on your pet’s behaviour, appetite, clinical symptoms and how they are feeling on a daily basis.

What Happens during euthanasia?

We can help you decide if euthanasia is an appropriate decision for your pet. We may offer a sedative, to help your cat relax and feel at ease throughout the process. An intravenous catheter is then placed in one of the front limbs to allow for delivery of the euthanasia drug.

Do you do house-calls?

We do not offer house calls, however, please contact the office and we can put you in contact with a house call service.

Can you stay with your cat during euthanasia?

Yes of course, and we encourage our clients to stay, as your pet will greatly appreciate it.

What is the cost of at-home or clinic euthanasia?

Please contact the office for more information.

Do you offer pet bereavement support service?

Yes we can offer support in bereavement counselling, however, if you require more intensive ongoing help there are many support groups that you can reach out to, such as Purina Pawsway and the Ontario Veterinary College Pet Loss Support Hotline at 519-824-4120 extension 53694.
